Piracy!

It will be of no surprise to you me lovely readers that I am a bit of a square eyes and I love my TV, in particular I love my American TV. And for the most part I have been watching my favourites illegally on line and on the odd occasion getting up in the middle of the night to download torrents of V, Mr Sunshine and Body of proof. The middle of the night because my broadband is so slow that it wont do it at another time. But the truth is I don't like illegally downloading I want to contribute in my own small way to the people that make the shows that fill my fangirl heart. So last night I decide that I wanted to sign up for the season pass of Body of Proof on itunes,Body of proof is the new show with Dana Delaney and Jeri Ryan, But turns out that being in the UK I can't do this. The sad fact is that for most of the programmes I've been watching over the last year I can't get legal access too, due to being in another country. In the states they have an awesome legal TV streaming site called Hulu and Hulu is every fangirls dream and seems to contain every show I would like to watch or re-watch but being UK based it's a no no as is the streaming TV on the ABC site. It's annoying because the media keeps going on and on about how piracy effects the industry but for some reason they are doing very little to make it easier for people to watch their work. And you can't tell me that writers of shows wouldn't want their work available all around the world.

Even the music industry is getting its act in gear with the advent of legal sites such as Spotify, which I am a premium member of because I do believe that people should get paid for their work. Sure it''s a bit easier now that we have Sky TV in the house ( Jennifer Beals new cop show starts next month, woo hoo!) but there still not showing the programmes that I love, nobody bought South of nowhere, nobody seems to have bought Rizolli & Isles despite the fact it's awesome, popular in the states (even if it's just among the lady lovin ladies)and their filming their 2nd series so when its finished all the Brit fans will have no option but to illegally watch it. Obviously TV companies can't buy everything out there but it would be nice to be able to get access to those programmes that I want to see but nobody want to show.

Sure there is the wait for the DVD option but how many people want to wait that long? I don't!! But I will buy the DVD's of some of the programmes I've watched illegally. Although I have all of Rizolli & Isles on my hardrive and a back up on memory stick I want the DVD because it shows my appreciation for the hard work that was put in to making the programme. So in the end I guess my message is this

1 So say we all:

Have you tried using a proxy server? It wouldn't work for itunes, but it might let you get on to Hulu.
