The day of the Triffids and I

It occured to me today that "Tdott's" and I have a long history. I first encountered this fab story in the 1980's when an adaptation of it was shown on the telly. Dear old mum and dad, my bruv and myself would rush back from our weekly trip to the swimming pool to watch it as a family. Years later it was that original novel that kept me company when I was in hospital when I was a teenager; as I was for the majority of the time the only person in the children's ward. The other week I was browsing the sc-fi section of missing and found the dvd of the show although I never bought it. Then of course there is the Howard Keel movie which I saw years ago. Now there is the new adaptation which has played a part of my Christmas viewing for the last year of the decade. Pretty cool don't yah thing?

Tried to get into Glasgow today as I wanted to see "Nine" but the trains were cancelled, so I had a walk round Hamilton instead. Spent my George at Asda gift card at long last, I've had it for long enough. Bought a pair of black trousers which make my bum look fab which in all honestly is a really big feat. In Oxfam I bought the book "The well of loneliness" which i'm sure you gathered, by the title, is a comedy. I have been wanting to read this for years but put off by the title and some of the rather unkind comments about it . I was intrigued by the fact is was banned when it came out in 1928 because of the lesbian plot and not un-banned till 1948. Although according to the introduction the words "Lesbian" or "Lesbianism" were never mentioned in the book. References to "invert" and "third sex" were the authors euphemism's of choice. The plot ( as far as i can gather) is about a women called "Stephan" who was raised just like a boy because her dad was disappointed she was a girl. She is the butchest, butchest women ever, who grows up gay. It's filled with lots of angst n' stuff. Fun fact it was a clue in an episode of the Mrs Bradley mysteries.I miss that show. According the a quote on the cover "It's the bible of lesbianism" (the book not the mrs bradly mysteries lol although dame Diane is a huge lesbian icon.) great way to piss of more people; compare it the bible. I thought "The bible of lesbianism" was the who's who in women's Tennis, Martina tick, Billie Jean tick, Gigi Fernandez tick ( and gorgeous) Amélie Mauresmo tick ( and looks like odo from DS9),. Anyway I'll let you know how I get on with this sinfull, sinfull book.

I almost whooped with girlish glee in poundland today as they had the Dario Argento movie " Cat o nine tales" WOW!!!!!!! You'll know from my previous posts that he is one of my fave horror directors. Naturally I bought it, it's got really good extras, none of you vanilla nonsense. An intreview with the man himself, plus an interview with a guy from "Goblin" who does his music. Well pleased.

Right I'm off to bed, it may only be the back of 7 but I don't really feel well. Night night all.

Brrrrrrrr!

We have loads of snow round our way much of it about 6inches deep. So naturally I took a photo and scrapped it.I tinted the photo blue to make it look colder and to try to hide the fact it was a little out of focus.

Hope the rugby's not cancelled on Sunday cause I'm looking forward to Glasgow warriors kicking Edinburgh's butt. And thanks to STV I can sit and watch it in the nice cozy house.

Shamless re-make

Allison Janney has been signed up to play Franks love intrest in the US remake of Shamless. How exiting. Never seen a full episode of this show but I do know that it's meant to be funny and Allison is good with the funny, see her in "Drop Dead gorgeous" for awesome Trailer trash funny, "Primary colors" and "West wing" for pratt fall funny and every time she plays Ellen at some bizzare game on TEDS. The amazing William H macy is playing Frank. The Americans are getting better with the brit re-makes so hopes are high for this one.

Got the ECG taken of this morning, was there for all of 5 mins lol. Glad I didn't have to take the hour long bus journey to get there for that short time. Won't hold my breath for the results, since I'm still waiting for the 07 ones lol.

Xmas shopping tomorrow; very exited about that. I like a nice spot of shopping.

Gah!

went for my pacemaker check today and was told that my ticker is ticking to fast ( again) so I have another 24 hour ECG monitor on me at the moment( last time I had one, for the same problem, was 2007 and never found out the results). fat bloody lot of good it will do as I haven't really done anything today, expet climb a ladder to get 4 boxes of DVD's down from my cupboard ( more of that later) and make a big ass pot of chili. I also got my eyebrows waxed and watched half of a really bad Holly Hunter movie called " The positively true adventures of the alleged Texas cheerleader murdering mom" turned it off after deciding that HH really, really bugs me plus I had a hard time understanding the Texan accent.Which is strange since I was addicted to Dallas as a kid.

So the DVD's I got down from the cupboard have made me the grand total of £41. Thanks to the website "musicmagpie". They buy old DVD's,CD's and computer games from people. You put in the barcoade and if that's in their system they make you an offer. You're not going to make mega bucks of the DVD's a lot of mine went for 30p and the pricing can seem really whacky. I put in the code for my season 1 Desperate house wives. now that's a box set that has 6 discs and 23 episodes; they offered my £1.50 ( I didn't take it). BUT my 1st series "Goodness gracious me" which is just one disc and 6 episodes netted me £3 ( I took it)Crazy huh! So they will send out the free post labels soon and hopefully I'll get a nice cheque in the new year. Which will go straight into my savings account as I'm getting worried that I'm not saving enough.

David's xmas pressie still hasn't arrived and neither has my replecemnt t-shirt from cafe press they said that would be here by the 1st of Dec. Think a couple of emails need to be sent. I'll give them both till friday.

Yeah End of exams woo hoo!

I think today went ok,all though I fear I may have created an new strand of Buddhism in my answers. I'm just kidding ( I hope!)

Was in Fopp today and bought the double disc version of horror classic "Re-animator" bargain price of £4. I've never seen it but have wanted to for a while. it was banned in the UK for years and then every subsequent release was cut,Until 2007 when the final the uncut version was allowed. And if your going to watch a movie then you may as well watch the version the film makers actually wanted you to see.
The film has a much talked about scene where a disambodied head ( that's been re-animated) gives a woman oral pleasure, I was going to write he ( if you could call a head a "He") gives her cunnilingus but I can never get my tongue round that lol ( old ones are the best)

I'm lovin' the facebook campaign to get people to buy rage against the machines song " Killing in the name of" intead of the x factor single. In a vain attempt to get back the xmas number one from lame acts. As much as I love that song, had that CD for a while then decide the rest was rubbish and got rid off it, it's not a very christmassy song and it's got a hell of a lot of swearing. So to quote a lyric from the song "Fuck you I wont do what you tell me" So nope I'm not buying the song. But it's good to see sideshow Bob has another job.

I'm going to start a campagin to get Shaky to do a new christmas single.

Yeah hoooooolidays. This week I'm really busy. Coffee/tea with Angella tomorrow, Pacemaker checkup on wed, Thur is eyebrow wax n dye day and friday is maybe movie day, maybe christmas shopping who knows. See how I feel. My ME has been a bit crazy latley thanks to the cold weather, it always makes it worse. So by friday I should really listen to my body and stay in bed if need be, but that's no fun, even with a box set of 30 rock to watch.

Right bath time.
